Migrate It:

Lytrod Software Proform Designer software product offers the capability to ingest legacy resources and convert them to another print environment. It can ingest FDL *.FSL form code and the compiled print form (*.FRM). It can then convert the FDL form, font (*.FNT) and image (*.LGO, *.IMG) resources to PostScript or PCL. Not only does it offer a direct conversion capability, but it includes the ability to make additional edits and changes to the FDL form resources in a GUI environment prior to the conversion.

Modernize It:

Proform Designer can ingest (line mode ASCII data) legacy data streams natively (even with DJDE’s) and remap the data for variable data printing on PostScript devices. This ability to directly ingest the data is a cost savings for print shops that would like to print to modern print devices without paying the mainframe programming or data transform equipment/outsourcing costs.

The entire line mode, print-ready data record can be directly mapped to the page, or user-defined sections of the data can be placed anywhere on the document page. This is done without programming in a drag-and-drop, fully visual data placement environment. By adding the flexibility to move section of data, overall data and form fonts can be updated to a more visually appealing scalable font type.

Other data features can be applied to change character case (UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case), calculate variables, extract data based upon a search criteria, etc. Conditional text, images, pages, PDF bookmarks, or media can be variably driven also.

…Or Just Edit It:

Proform Designer can also ingest legacy resources (the FDL code *.FSL or the compiled printer form *.FRM) for editing and then recompile the resources back to the same legacy format. Current environments can be retained, so that migration/modernization can happen gradually.
